The Giovanni V. Schiapparelli Astronomical Society of Varese has always been committed to building an ideal bridge of understanding between Science and people. The activities planned for the cycle of meetings entitled "Between Sky and Earth" which will run from Saturday 9^th March to Friday 22^nd November 2024 range from observing evenings to scientific conferences, from days dedicated to the Sun to those dedicated to Nature.

Saturday 9^th March - Cineforum Special

Time: 9:00 p.m.

Location: Sala Montanari del Comune di Varese

Projection of the documentary 'Star Stuff' by Milad Tangshir, with a presentation by Dr. Giuseppe Palumbo, historical-scientific populariser and member of the Schiaparelli Astronomical Society.

Friday 19^th April - "Marie Curie" Conference

Time: 9:00 p.m.

Location: Salone Estense del Comune di Varese, Via Sacco, 5

Conference held by Dr Giuseppe Piccinotti, physicist and science popularizer of the Schiaparelli Astronomical Society.

Sunday 28^th April - Open Doors at the Centro Geofisico Prealpino, between Science, Nature and Ecology

From 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Location: at the Park and Dacia of Villa Baragiola in Varese

10 a.m.: show for children and families "L'Arbre Magique" by and with Jane Bowie

11.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m.: visits to the Prealpine Geophysical Centre

3.30 p.m.: show on Ecology by populariser and science journalist Maurizio Melis

Friday 10^th May - Conference 'Between demographic winter and global warming: what future for the planet'

Conference by Prof. Alessandro Rosina, Demography and Social Statistics lecturer at the Catholic University of Milan.

Visits to the mountain garden, educational workshops, guided tours of the Observatory and observation of the Sun

Saturday 12^th August - Perseids Evening

Time: 9:00 p.m.

Location: Villa Toeplitz in Varese

Evening dedicated to observing the Perseid meteor shower and the Midsummer constellations

Sunday 15^th September - Open Doors at the Observatory: Everything in the Air

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Osservatorio Astronomico Giovanni V. Schiapparelli, Località Campo dei Fiori (VA)

Guided visits to the Observatory and observation of the Sun, educational workshops are also planned. Event with the participation of the "Volandia Flight Park and Museum".

Friday 20^th September - Conference: "Too Good for the Nobel?"

Tine: 9:00 p.m.

Location: Salone Estense del Comune di Varese - Via Sacco, 5

The conference will be held by Prof. Michela Prest, Professor of Science and High Technology at the University of Insubria, Como.

Sunday 13^th October - Open Doors at the Observatory: Journey through the Solar System

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Osservatorio Astronomico Giovanni V. Schiapparelli, Località Campo dei Fiori (VA)

Guided tours of the Citadel's Planet Path, the Observatory, educational workshops and Sun observation are planned.
The guided tours of the Solar System will start every half hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will last approximately one hour. Departure will be from the Citadel's entrance gate, and during the 1,000-metre walk, you will see the 11 panels describing our Solar System.

Friday 25^th October - Conference "Life with radiation, or radiation in our lives".

Time: 21:00

Location: Salone Estense del Comune di Varese - Via Sacco, 5

Sabina Strocchi, a specialist in medical physics, will hold the conference.

Saturday 9^th November - Special Cineforum

Time: 9:00 p.m.

Location: Sala Montanari del Comune di Varese (P.zza dei bersaglieri, zona Tribunale)

The evening will feature a screening of the film Agora, with a presentation by Dr. Giuseppe Palumbo, a historical-scientific populariser and member of the Schiaparelli Astronomical Society.
The film narrates in fictional form the life of the Greek-Alexandrian mathematician, astronomer and philosopher Hypatia (355-415 A.D.), during the era of anti-pagan persecutions.

Friday 22^nd November - Conference 'The legacy of Salvatore Furia, one hundred years after his birth'

Time: 21:00

Location: Salone Estense of the Municipality of Varese - Via Sacco, 5

The conference will be held by Prof. Luca Molinari, Professor of Physics at the University of Milan and President of the Schiaparelli Astronomical Society.
