Christmas in Art in and around Varese returns with six guided tours offered by Archeologistics from Friday 17th November to Friday 22nd December 2023. A journey to discover the most beautiful nativities among Varese's iconic places.

- Friday 17th November at 4.00 p.m.: John's Baptistery, Riva San Vitale (CH)
The first stop "A Romantic History" will be held at the Baptistery of St. John in Riva San Vitale (CH). This is an early Christian monument dating back to the 5th century that contains delicate Romanesque frescoes, including an extraordinary nativity whose scene traces Byzantine models such as that interpreted by the unknown author of the frescoes in the church of Santa Maria foris Portas in Castelseprio (VA).
- Friday 24th November at 4.00 p.m.: the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Varese
The second stage "The Nativity and Other Stories" continues in the Baptistery of St. John in Varese. For the occasion, the doors of the architectural jewel kept in the city center are opened, which houses a series of frescoes on its walls, among which two nativities also appear. Access will also be gained to the upper tribune, recently restored and reopened to the public.
- Friday 1st Decemmber at 4.00 p.m.: Church of Madonna in Campagna, Castiglione Olona
The journey continues inthe Church of Madonna in Campagna in Castiglione Olona. A building once surrounded by meadows and fields, it is now in the town center. The church, with two adjacent chapels, contains a frescoed altarpiece inside with scenes of an extraordinary nativity.

- Friday 8th December at 4.00 p.m.: the Baroffio Museum at the Sacro Monte of Varese
The fourth stage of "Ancient and Contemporary Nativity" journey with visits to the Baroffio Museum at Sacro Monte of Varese, to discover ancient and contemporary nativities, or how art over time has represented the birth of Christ. A journey from the Romanesque to the present day, from Lanfranco da Ligurno to Renato Guttuso through the works housed in the museum and depicting the adoration of the Magi, the birth of Jesus, the flight into Egypt and the childhood of Christ.

- Friday 15th December at 4.00 p.m.: Church of Madoninna in prato and Church of Saints Peter and Paul, Biumo Inferiore
We continue into the heart of Varese, where two churches tell the story of the nativity with 17th-century frescoes and bear witness to St. Charles Borromeo's passage through the city.
- Friday 22nd December at 3:30 p.m.: Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Piazza, Busto Arsizio
The journey ends at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Piazza in Busto Arsizio, a 16th-century shrine tells of devotion to the Virgin: a frescoed dome, prophets and sibyls watching over pilgrims, as well as the Madonna and Child.
