Monte Pelada

• •

Monte Pelada is a pretty hill 472mt height, covered by trees and that overlooks the lakes. The route starts in Osmate and climbs up the hill and through some woods where you can see the type of vegetation typically found on glacial hills. Chestnut trees are common along with Scots pines, oak trees and birches, while there are few exotic species, such as robinia and black cherry, which is a sign of well-managed woodland. Once over the top of the hill the route descends to Lentate, through very similar countryside.

Borromeo Castle, the Museum of Children’s Clothing and the Doll and Toy Museum

Angera’s Borromeo Castle towers majestically over the southern shores of Lake Maggiore from a spur of chalky cliffs. The fortified mediaeval castle is steeped in examples of its long, illustrious history, such as the Hall of Justice with its outstanding series of twelfth-century frescoes, the historical halls and the castle tower that offers breathtaking panoramic views over the lake. Borromeo Castle is also home to the Doll and Toy Museum, the most notable of its kind in Europe.
