From Saturday, November 11 to Sunday, December 10, 2023, there will be an exhibition "Visions. Earth Sciences in Popular Literature of the Nineteenth Century" at Villa Mirabello - Civic Museums of the City of Varese.

The exhibition is curated by the "Center for Research on the History of Mountain, Material Culture and Earth Sciences" (Department of Toric and Applied Sciences, University of Insubria, Varese campus).

The exhibition is designed with the aim of presenting to the public the results of research on geological images of a popular nature circulated mainly in books and periodicals published during the nineteenth century, particularly in Italy and France.
The way in which the visual culture related to the Earth sciences is renewed, the specificities and ways of circulation of these new images, possible differences and similarities between publications in the European area, and, in general, a previously little-studied area between the history of the arts and the history of science will be presented.

Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. there will be a presentation in Risorgimento Hall, followed by the inauguration of the exhibition.

Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. there will be a closing conference in the Risorgimento Hall.
