Passo Forcora, located in the municipality of Veddasca, is situated in the north of the province of Varese, 50 minutes from the city of Varese and 20 minutes from Luino.
The route starts from the pass itself, where you can leave the car in a large free parking lot. Pass by the small church on the pass and take the path following a wooden sign a comfortable carriage road to Monterecchio. From here the route goes up to the Veddasca Valley.
Take the well-marked detour to the left just before reaching the village of Armio, in a few kilometers you will arrive at your destination. From there you can enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Maggiore and the Veddasca Valley.
Once you’ve reached the foot of Monte Colonna, the trail climbs up and becomes very challenging to Monte Paglione, where you can find a fantastic view of Locarno, Brissago and its islands, and Monte Rosa.
There are several possibilities for the return, but generally you go through the same route, with the exception of a detour to Monte Colonna, from where you can admire Lake Maggiore.
