The Via Gaggio is a picturesque cycling and walking path crossing the area of Lonate Pozzolo, once an important route connecting the town to the Fiume Ticino. The trail runs through heathland typical of the Lombardy plains, characterized by sandy and clay soils and dotted with historical traces from the 20th century.
The route begins near Viale Ticino, where a sign indicates the distance to the Ex Dogana Austro-Ungarica di Lonate, now a park visitor center, located just over two kilometers away.
Along the way, stone boundary markers tell stories of the past, while an open-air museum displays remnants from World War II, offering a fascinating glimpse into local history.
After passing the customs building, the path turns right and leads to the Belvedere di Via Gaggio, a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Fiume Ticino, the Piedmont side, and the Alpine chain.
Continuing on, you easily reach the Canale Villoresi, bordered by a charming towpath that invites you to keep exploring in a peaceful natural setting.
This itinerary is also suitable for mountain biking.
