DAY 1 – FROM FORTE TO LAKE

DESCRIPTION- From downtown of Varese, in the direction of Castello di Masnago, passing in front of the Stadium and the Palazzetto following the blue 'Eolo' strips leading uphill on asphalt towards Sacro Monte, a Unesco heritage site. You reach the Borgo passing in front of the arrival point of the Funicular, coming out at the top of Viale delle Cappelle. From here you reach the Belvedere del Campo dei Fiori and then on an easy dirt road to the Forte d'Orino, the most beautiful balcony in the province from which you can see all the lakes and mountain ranges as far as Milan. After a very steep and technical descent on trail 317 we reach Monte Morto, Laghetto Motta d'Oro to Gavirate. We return to Varese via the lakeside cycle path that ends with the Via Francisca at Casbeno.
POINTS OF INTEREST - The Sacro Monte Unesco site , the panorama from del Campo dei Fiori belvedere and from Forte d’Orino; Motta d’Oro pound in the woods of the Park; likeside of Gavirate, Gliding, Zanzi Park on Lake Varese.

DAY 2 – THE UNESCO FOSSIL BETWEEN ITALY AND SWITZERLAND

DESCRIPTION - From the lakeside of Porto Ceresio, along the new cycle path and dirt roads, we climb past the main fossiliferous sites of the Unesco Monte San Giorgio area. After a few passages through the trenches and stops at spectacular viewpoints, we ascend to Sasso Caldo, the site of the discovery of the Besanosaurus, one of the most important fossils in the world. Across the historic border between Italy and Switzerland, we descend to Meride, where the fossil museum, renovated in 2012 by architect Mario Botta, is located. The return is via the didactic path back to the Cà del Monte area and to Besano, where the museum on the Italian side can be visited.

DAY 3 – PIAMBELLO MOUNT

DESCRIPTION - Starting from Porto Ceresio, one reaches the summit of Monte Piambello along the military road of the Cadorna Line. From the highest point, the view embraces Lake Lugano, Lake Maggiore and on clear days even the Apennines and the skyline of Milan. After descending to Boarezzo to visit the remains of the Alpine Village, we continue to the statue of the Madonna degli Alpini, and then to the Grottino di Ardena for a tasty lunch break. Having recharged our batteries, we climb up to Punta Paradiso, one of the most beautiful balconies on Lake Lugano, before returning to Porto Ceresio.
