The history of the Museum, established in 1966 with the name of Civic Gallery of Modern Art of Gallarate, coincides with that of its collection which was born and expanded following the acquisitions of the National Prize for Visual Arts of the City of Gallarate starting from its first edition in 1950.
In December 2009, the Municipality of Gallarate established the "Silvio Zanella Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery" Foundation and the following year the Museum acquired the name MA*GA - Gallarate Art Museum and inaugurated the new and most prestigious headquarters museum in via De Magri.
The MA*GA proposes the conservation, increase and enhancement of the works of the permanent collection and the organization of activities designed to offer cognitive support to one's artistic heritage and to make the public participate and attentive to the issues highlighted, reported and expressed. from the art of our days.
