It is possible to travel with your pet on the trains. Small dogs are admitted free of charge in first and second class of all train categories on all train categories and in the Executive, Business, Premium and Standard service levels. You can only take one pet carrier with you. It is also allowed, for each traveler, to transport a dog of any size, kept on a leash and fitted with a muzzle:

• on IC and ICN trains in both first and second class;
• on regional trains with the exception of the timetable from 7 to 9 in the morning on weekdays from Monday to Friday;
• on the Frecciabianca, Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains, in first and second class and in the Business and Standard service levels. The Executive, Premium service level, the Work Area, the Silence Area and the sitting areas are excluded;
• in sleeping carriages, couchette carriages and Excelsior cars, for compartments purchased entirely. In these cases, for the transport of the dog, it is necessary to buy a second class ticket (or standard level at the price foreseen for the train used) reduced by 50%.

For the transport of dogs it is necessary to be in possession of the certificate of registration in the canine registry and the health book (or, for dogs of foreign citizens, the "dog passport" to replace both documents); without these documents you will be fined with a fine and you will be forced to get off at the first stop.

It is possible to transport animals on the train, these conditions must be respected:

• For each animal the cost of the ticket is € 2 and allows you to make an unlimited number of journeys by the last train of the validation day, even if after midnight.
• The transport of animals of any kind is NOT allowed on weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 7.00-9.30 and from 17.30-19.30. Guide dogs accompanying the blind travel for free and without time limits.
• The Animal Supplement is valid only if used in conjunction with a regular travel document in the possession of the traveler.
• The transport of small animals in 1st and 2nd class, kept in a special container (maximum 1 per person) with dimensions not exceeding 70x30x50 cm and such as to exclude injury or damage to both travelers and cars, is free of charge.
• The transport of dogs is allowed only if in possession of a muzzle, leash and certificate of the canine registry.
